Browne Jacobson advises BGF on multi-million-pound investment into Centre for Energy Equality

12 October 2026

Law firm Browne Jacobson has advised BGF, the UK & Ireland's most active growth capital investor, on its multi-million-pound investment into Centre for Energy Equality (CEE), an impact-driven organisation tackling energy poverty and accelerating grid innovation.

The deal marks Browne Jacobson's second transaction with BGF in 2026, following the firm's earlier advice to BGF on its investment into Black Cat.

CEE designs and develops solutions to address energy poverty and grid flexibility, working alongside network operators, energy suppliers, local authorities and industry partners to pilot solutions directly with communities. The BGF investment will enable CEE to scale its advisory services, bring several new products to market and continue expanding its team as it drives the UK's low-carbon transition.

The Browne Jacobson deal team was led by partner Corporate Partner Ryan Brown, supported by associates Alex O'Donoghue and Mattias McDonald (corporate), senior tax advisor Jade Williamson and partner Craig Thomas (tax), partner Graham Ball and associate Rudo Chinogureyi (banking), principal associate Jennifer Jenkins and senior associate Abbie Griffiths (employment), and partner Faye McConnell and associate Phoebe Price (intellectual property).

Ryan Brown commented: "It's great to see CEE get this investment over the line to help them tackling a real problem in a way that puts communities first. BGF are a fantastic partner for a business like this, and it was a pleasure to work with them again having advised on the Black Cat deal earlier this year."

BGF has committed £3 billion to support high-growth companies across the UK over the next five years, including £400 million earmarked for businesses in the North West, a region in which BGF has already invested £596 million since 2011.
