Browne Jacobson advises LDC on investment in plant-based food specialist Bespoke Kitchen Foods

UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson has advised LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group, on its investment in vegan and vegetarian food manufacturer Bespoke Kitchen Foods. 

LDC, part of Lloyds Banking Group, is a leading private equity investor with decades of experience in market-leading food and drink businesses. In the last decade, LDC has invested £403m into 21 consumer businesses, with a combined enterprise value of £900m. The firm has made successful investments across sub-sectors including food and drink, travel and leisure, and consumer products. 

Based in Leicestershire, Bespoke Kitchen Foods provides innovative plant-based products to supply the growing demand in the UK's hospitality sector. Bespoke Kitchen recently expanded its manufacturing capacity with a new production facility, taking headcount to more than 100 employees. 

LDC will support the business’ ambitious organic and acquisitive growth strategy, which is underpinned by expansion into new segments, including high street dining chains.  

The Browne Jacobson team assisting LDC was led by Sam Sharp, Partner and head of the firm’s food and drink group, and Matt Bolton, Partner in the corporate team. Cross-service assistance was provided by Shaun McCabe, Partner and head of the banking and finance teamSenior Associate Patrick Berry on banking and Corporate Associates David Burdon and Alys Bratch.

The deal follows recent work in the food and drink sector from the Browne Jacobson team, including securing international backing for British gin company Warners Distillery and Strong Roots’ acquisition by McCain Foods.
