Craig is a partner in the tax team at Browne Jacobson and head of the corporate tax transactions practice. He specialises in advising on the tax aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions, from smaller transactions (£2–3M) through to large-scale deals (£500M+).

Craig also regularly advises on:

  • Corporate restructuring and reorganisations.
  • Employment taxes and termination payments.
  • Incentives and benefits schemes, including tax advantaged share options.
  • Residency rules relating to corporate entities and other cross border matters.

In a career spanning over 20 years in law and having worked for a number of global and national law firms, Craig has gained valuable insight and experience in working with a vast range of clients, from owner-managed businesses to larger global concerns, across a variety of sector groups and prides himself on being able to explain technical legal issues in an easily understandable way and provide solutions to complex legal problems which help his clients to achieve their aims.

Credentials

Craig was admitted as a solicitor (England and Wales) in 2007 and worked for over 10 years as a pensions lawyer. Craig became a tax lawyer in 2017 and was appointed as a member of the association of tax technicians (ATT) in 2021 and as an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) in 2023.

Recognition

Craig is a qualified and currently practising solicitor in England and Wales and is both ATT and CTA qualified. Craig sits on the West Midlands Chartered Institute of Taxation Committee and regularly arranges, speaks at and attends CIOT Events.

Advising a Dubai LLC in relation to structuring a proposed investment in a company incorporated in the Isle of Man looking to invest in UK properties.

Advising and putting in place a bespoke long-term incentive plan for the company’s executives based on successful completion of funded litigation cases.

UK tax residency and permanent establishment advisory

Advising a company incorporated and resident outside the UK as to the UK’s tax residency rules and rules relating to permanent establishments.

Cross-border employment tax advisory

Advising a UK employer as to the tax implications of a cross-border worker in Germany.

Advising a private equity buyer acquiring the high street business of a well-known stationery retailer.
