Active in the sector since the 1990s, we are proud of our heritage – supporting housing providers across the country to deliver much-needed affordable housing. We’re proud to advise some of the most active housing providers in England, including nearly 20% of Homes England’s current “strategic partners”.
Using this experience, and our contacts in the sector, we want to help equip you to fulfil your ambitious plans for housing delivery using the land-led approach. From negotiating the heads of terms through to selling plots and mortgaging them, this year-long, case-study based programme will guide you through (and demystify) the legal process of transforming sites into communities.
You will hear from our Property, Construction, Planning and Procurement experts as well as key external leaders in the market, such as leading land agents. Using true-to-life case-studies and insights from sector leaders, this programme will leave you ready to put these learnings into practice in the real world.
Who should join?
This is open to anybody working for a developing registered provider (be that housing associations or local authorities) who is involved in delivering new affordable homes. Whether you are a graduate looking to familiarise yourself with the legal process or an experienced project manager looking for a refresher – this programme is designed for you.
These sessions will be interactive and will provide you with opportunity to connect with your peers in the industry as you learn from and with each other.
What we’ll cover
Our social housing experts’ training programme delivers the following two-hour sessions:
Thursday 22 January 2026, starting at 10am: Teams with discussion sessions.
We’ll discuss agreeing the deal, negotiating heads of terms of conditional land contracts and pre-contract due diligence, including title, searches and planning, technical due diligence and VAT.
This will also provide you with an overview of the planning process and s106 agreements.
We will also be joined by an experienced land agent for a Q&A session which will give you an “insider’s guide” on building and managing relationships with landowners and their agents whilst negotiating heads of terms.
Tuesday 14 April 2026, starting at 10am: Teams with discussion sessions.
We’ll tackle the fundamental commercial terms of typical land contracts conditional on planning such as longstop dates, exchange/completion mechanisms, termination rights, insurance, how the deposit is held. We will also look at the planning process itself.
Thursday 11th June 2026, starting at 10am: Teams with discussion sessions.
This session will tackle the key legal steps involved in delivering housing after your organisation has purchased the land. We’ll cover procurement and negotiating a building contract.
