UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson has advised Modella Capital on its acquisition of Claire’s, saving the high-street brand from administration.
The transaction, completed through administrators Interpath Advisory, represents a significant rescue deal for the jewellery and accessories retailer, which entered administration in August 2025.
The deal enables Claire's to continue trading on high streets across the UK, preserving a beloved brand known for its jewellery, accessories, and ear-piercing services.
Modella Capital, owners of retailers including Hobbycraft and The Original Factory Shop, acquired TGJones, formerly WH Smith’s high street chain, earlier this year. The move demonstrated their commitment to supporting UK retail, in another transaction that Browne Jacobson advised on.
Browne Jacobson fielded a multi-disciplinary team to support Modella Capital through the complex acquisition process led by Sandra Wong, Partner in corporate M&A and private equity and Amy Keogh, Partner in restructuring and insolvency.
Supporting Sandra and Amy were Dina Hansotia (Associate, corporate M&A) alongside Suki Tonks (Partner, property), Jennifer Jenkins (Principal Associate, employment), Duncan McMeekin (Legal Director, commercial), and Faye McConnell (Principal Associate, intellectual property).
Sandra Wong said: “This is another great example of our work with Modella Capital, having previously supported them on their acquisition of TGJones (formerly WH Smith’s high street chain) earlier this year. Our co-ordinated approach across multiple practice areas enabled us to deliver another successful outcome for the client and a much-loved brand.”
Joe Price, Managing Director at Modella Capital, said: "Claire's is a key high-street staple with a loyal customer base and dedicated workforce. We're committed to giving the much-loved brand the chance to remain a fixture on the UK and Irish high street for years to come.
“Thank you to Browne Jacobson, our legal partner, throughout our recent acquisitions. The team’s consistent efficiency, commerciality and clear understanding of our business allowed us to complete this complex transaction swiftly and effectively."
The acquisition forms part of Modella Capital's broader strategy of investing in established retail brands with strong market positions.
