Kate is a Legal Director who specialises in contentious construction and engineering work. She has experience of advising public and private sector clients in relation to dispute avoidance and resolution, including pre-dispute advice and negotiation through to litigation, adjudication, mediation and arbitration.

Kate is familiar with standard forms of contract, including JCT, NEC3/4 and PPC2000, along with bespoke EPC contracts. She provides advice on building contracts, professional appointments and related construction documents to developers, employers, main contractors, consultants and sub-contractors.

Ranked as “Up and Coming” in Chambers and Partners, Kate has expertise in fire safety issues, including not only defective cladding systems installed on tall buildings, but a range of related issues including compartmentation, fire-stopping and sprinkler defects. She also has significant experience of advising clients in the context of insolvency, acting for both the employers of insolvent contractors and insolvency practitioners.

Multi-million claims defence

Assisted client in successfully defending a £3m+ claim by a contractor following an 11-day hearing in the TCC. The contractor had claimed for additional loss and/or expense and loss of profit following the termination of its contract to construct an infrastructure project.

Advising on UK portfolios

Part of a team advising the client on its UK portfolio of properties in relation to combustible cladding systems on tall buildings. Issued multi-party claims in the TCC against developers, main contractors, consultants and sub-contractors; the disputes were subsequently settled at mediation.
