Browne Jacobson's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reinforcing the firm's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2045.  

The validation reflects the firm's ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact through sustainable business practices across its operations, supported by annual measurement of GHG emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.  

The validation, conducted in accordance with SBTi criteria, covers near-term, long-term and net-zero targets across the firm's full GHG inventory.

Net-zero targets  

Browne Jacobson has committed to achieving net-zero GHG emissions across its entire value chain by 2045, in accordance with climate science and SBTi criteria.  

As part of its near-term targets, the firm will:  

• Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 29.4% by 2030, from a 2023 base year.  
• Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel- and energy-related activities by 48.8% within the same timeframe.  
• Ensure that 80% of its suppliers by emissions, covering purchased goods and services and capital goods, will have science-based targets by 2030.  
• Increase active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 98% in 2023 to 100% by 2030.  

As its long-term target, the firm commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90.0% by 2045 from a 2023 base year. The firm also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 90.0% within the same timeframe.  

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. SBTi develops standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets to reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest.  

Instrumental in delivering Browne Jacobson’s SBTi validation is Environmental, Health and Safety Manager Dan McIntyre-Clark, who has also been named as one of seven Legal Sustainability Alliance (LSA) Climate Heroes for 2026–27, a scheme recognising individual contribution to climate action within the legal sector.
