Browne Jacobson expands international disputes offering with new Head of Commercial Dispute Resolution in London

17 April 2025

UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed Danielle Carr to lead its Commercial Dispute Resolution group in London.

Danielle’s appointment underscores Browne Jacobson’s strategic commitment to expanding its dispute resolution capability, its London office and its global expertise.

Her international connections, and extensive experience working in the UK, Middle East and Australia, make Danielle an invaluable addition to the firm’s growing dispute resolution team, which now has more than 100 people across the UK and Ireland.

Danielle’s commercial litigation, international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution practice focuses on complex (often multi-jurisdictional) matters involving contractual disputes, insolvency, fraud, trusts, professional negligence claims, corporate and regulatory issues, and shareholder disputes.

With particular expertise in cross-border disputes, Danielle has led high-profile cases, including two successful claims in the English High Court against Lebanese banks arising from the Lebanese financial crisis. She is recommended in legal directories for her “outstanding commercial awareness”, and “mastery of the subject matter and the legal system”.

Declan Cushley, Head of Browne Jacobson’s Corporates sector strategy and the firm’s London office, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Danielle to our team. Her exceptional skillset and international perspective are perfectly aligned with our strategic goals, which include growth in London and internationally.

“We are enthusiastic about Danielle’s global connections, which will complement our practice. This is just the beginning of a series of strategic moves that will further cement our position as a go-to firm for businesses with a strong international focus and clients with complex requirements.”

Danielle Carr added: “I am delighted to join Browne Jacobson at an exciting time in the firm’s strategic plan. I look forward to continuing to develop our Commercial Dispute Resolution practice, working with an exceptional team committed to assisting our clients including in multi-jurisdictional matters.”

Danielle joins from Rosenblatt (with Memery Crystal, part of formerly AIM-quoted RBG Holdings plc), and has previously worked at Herbert Smith Freehills in their London, Dubai and Sydney offices.

Her appointment follows the addition of a technology and commercial law team in London from EY Law and the establishment of an international litigation practice in Dublin led by Ciaran Markey, both of which further enhanced the firm’s capabilities in end-to-end technology legal services to clients across UK and Ireland.

Browne Jacobson's dispute resolution professionals advise domestic and international clients, including leading organisations, on the UK and Irish elements of international disputes and regulatory investigations. The team is also skilled at managing the progression and resolution of international disputes, and regulatory investigations in other common and civil law jurisdictions around the world.

The firm has built a global network of legal experts who work across 50 key jurisdictions – including EMEA, USA, Asia and other major markets. By leveraging trusted partners’ regional specialisms, Browne Jacobson ensures clients’ worldwide interests are protected.

Notable cases the firm has worked on include:

  • Advising US SIPA Trustee of Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities LLC and Bernard (Bernie) L Madoff in respect of UK, Irish, European and Commonwealth claims arising from the world’s largest fraud. These claims raise multiple, formerly untested, areas of cross-border insolvency law, involving billions of dollars redemptions and fees paid prior to the collapse of Madoff’s infamous Ponzi scheme.
  • Acting as virtual General Counsel to the parent company of Twin Hill Acquisition Co, Inc to advise on litigation strategy and key risk issues arising from a suite of product liability claims in the US seeking up to $500m in damages due to allegedly defective uniforms manufactured by Twin Hill for 65,000 American Airlines employees.
  • Acting in follow-on private damages actions before the Irish High Court following decisions from the European Commission, European General Court and European Court of Justice.
  • Successfully challenging the jurisdiction of the Irish High Court to determine an intellectual property right infringement claim brought by easyGroup against the firm’s Cyprus-based client.
