Huel bought by Danone: Comment from M&A lawyer
The British meal supplement maker Huel is being bought by Danone for €1bn (£864m).
Commenting on the news, Sam Sharp, Partner at Browne Jacobson, said: "This deal is a strong signal of where the complete nutrition and high-protein food market is now and looks to be heading. The most compelling transactions in the food and drink sector right now are not speculative bets, they are strategic moves by established players to own categories they can see maturing in real time. Danone acquiring Huel fits that pattern precisely.
"What makes this particularly interesting is the timing. We're seeing from clients how GLP-1 is reshaping how consumers think about food quality and protein intake, and consumer trust in ultra-processed food is under pressure. Companies such as Huel sit in a favourable intersection of all of those factors."
