Retail law roundup: April 2026
29 April 2026
Welcome to our retail law roundup, where we share legal updates for retailers and brands.
Our first article this month revisits the issue of retail crime and staff wellbeing in light of the British Retail Consortium annual crime survey. Although the data points to some tentative progress, there persists a significant risk of violence and aggressive behaviour towards retail workers. We consider the duty of care owed by retailers to their employees and the enhanced obligations being introduced under the Employment Rights Act, as well as practical measures to mitigate the risk and support affected staff.
We also look at:
- Subscription traps and the DMCC Act
- Green claims in UK Advertising
- Trade union workplace access
- Mandatory ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting
