A Browne Jacobson partner will play a strategic role in guiding Citizens Advice’s support to people facing everyday struggles ranging from financial hardship to accessing justice after being appointed as a national board member. 

Peter Ware, Partner who heads up the UK and Ireland law firm’s government practice, has joined the National Citizens Advice Trustee Board in a personal and voluntary capacity. 

He will attend quarterly board meetings sit on several subcommittees, using his experience of working with local and central government organisations to assist the UK charity in making long-term decisions about strategic direction and values.

Citizens Advice, which describes itself as “the people’s champion”, supports the general public with practical advice on issues including debt management, benefit claims, tenancy rights, employment disputes and consumer rights. It also works to improve government policies and business practices that affect daily life.

Peter is recognised by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as a leading expert in public law and procurement, and specialises in contentious and non-contentious procurement matters for public and private sector clients. 

At Browne Jacobson, he came up with the idea for Next Chapter, a social mobility initiative run that set out to support university students with lived experience of the care system. A six-month pilot of the programme, run in partnership with Nottingham City Council, completed last month, having worked with four participants to equip them with the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to step into rewarding and successful careers.

Before joining the firm, Peter was a special projects adviser at Nottinghamshire County Council. He is also a committed net zero advocate, having played an instrumental role in developing the Midlands Engine's 10-point plan for Green Growth, and serves as Finance and Membership Secretary of the Procurement Lawyers Association. 

Citizens Advice supports people across England, Wales and the Channel Islands through free, impartial advice online, over the phone and in person. In 2024–25, it helped 2.71 million people directly and recorded 44 million website visits, backed by more than 19,500 trained volunteers across over 1,900 locations.
