Browne Jacobson’s intellectual property (IP) lawyers have again been ranked in the latest World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000 - the independent guide of leading trade mark experts, across key jurisdictions around the globe.
The UK & Ireland law firm maintained its silver ranking in the enforcement and litigation category. The firm was also recommended for its transactional work and ranked in the prosecution and strategy category.
In the latest guide, one key client praises the firm for being “truly excellent to work with” and for being “extremely thorough, incredibly detail oriented, dedicated and pragmatic”.
In addition to the firm accolade, the practice also has seven of its specialist IP lawyers and litigators named in the recommended individual practitioner category. This includes partner and head of the firm’s UK&I commercial and IP practice, Declan Cushley. Declan is rated for giving “clear, well-considered advice and good judgement”, and for being “quite simply a fantastic commercial adviser.” Partner and head of the firm’s high tech patent litigation practice, Mark Daniels is considered “extremely strategic” and a “fantastic litigator”. IP partners, Giles Parsons and Selina Hinchliffe, Trade mark litigator, Bonita Trimmer and senior associate IP lawyer Faye McConnell are also ranked whilst partner Nick Smee has made his debut in this year’s guide.
Declan commented on the team’s rankings: “We are delighted that the high calibre work of our specialist IP practice has been highlighted by WTR and are proud to have seven of the team praised for their extensive IP industry knowledge and diverse sector expertise.
“We continue to work in highly competitive, evolving market conditions, so to be consistently ranked over the last nine years in the WTR 1000 reflects the capabilities of our full advisory team and the strength in our ability to build long standing relationships we have built with our broad client portfolio.
“With our investment in our first overseas office in Dublin office last year and the appointment of strategic advisor Mike Rebeiro to our UK&I IP and Tech team, we are firmly committed to our ambitions around digital disruption and to further growing our specialist IP offering to clients based both in the UK and Ireland.”
Browne Jacobson’s award-winning specialist IP team is based in the five of the firm’s six offices including Birmingham, Dublin, London, Manchester and Nottingham. The team advises on the full range of rights from patents, confidential information and designs to trade marks and copyright. Alongside its ranking by WTR 1000 ranking, the practice is also recognised by Managing Intellectual Property, IAM Patent 1000, Chambers and Legal 500.
The team has extensive experience assisting a premium client portfolio of some of the world’s leading global household names and luxury brands including Mace Group, Lotus Cars, Match Group and ICONIC London. The team is also regularly instructed to handle a number of the UK’s leading cases and has helped shape IP law in the UK and Europe.

Five “takeaways” in claims against mortgage brokers following Taylor v Legal & General Partnership Services Ltd [2022] EWHC 2475 (Ch)
Claims arising from interest-only mortgages have been farmed in volume. Many such claims to date have sought to drive a narrative that interest-only mortgages are an inherently toxic product and brokers were negligent simply for suggesting them. Taylor is a helpful recalibration, focussing instead on what the monies raised by the mortgage product were being used for and whether the client understood the inherent risks.
