Browne Jacobson accelerates Dublin expansion with strategic hire in employment law

18 September 2025

Law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed Marie-Claire Scullion as Partner and Head of Employment in its rapidly expanding Dublin office, establishing a dedicated employment law service for Ireland's thriving business landscape.

The appointment represents another milestone in the firm's continued Irish expansion, where it advises household names across multiple sectors. Marie-Claire joins a firm-wide team of employment lawyers spanning seven offices across the UK and Ireland.

Marie-Claire brings heavyweight experience from previous firms, coming from a large international firm where she advised international and domestic businesses on complex employment matters including employment disputes, protected disclosures, reorganisations and workplace data protection.

"Browne Jacobson's clients, ambition and reputation for advising businesses at the forefront of society's biggest issues are what attracted me to this firm," said Marie-Claire. "Ireland's tech boom and the sophisticated employment challenges facing global businesses here, demand exceptional legal expertise. I'm here to deliver exactly that, driving our Irish employment practice to excel and ensuring our clients stay ahead of the curve."

Welcoming the appointment, Emma Capper, Head of Browne Jacobson’s UK and Ireland Employment Team, commented: "With employment law evolving rapidly across our UK and Ireland operations, and Dublin experiencing unprecedented demand for our services, this appointment was mission-critical to our growth strategy. Marie-Claire has a strong reputation for delivering pragmatic, business-focused solutions and I’m delighted she has joined us to grow our employment law service in Ireland."

Jeanne Kelly, founding partner of Browne Jacobson's Dublin office, added: “Marie-Claire joining is the latest in a string of strategic appointments that are transforming our Dublin offering. Our clients, which include major household names, demand our full-service model under one roof, and that's what we're delivering."

Ciarán Markey, founding partner of Browne Jacobson's Dublin office, added: "This appointment directly addresses the growing demand from our major employer clients doing business in Ireland, the UK and internationally. Marie-Claire's expertise ensures we can deliver consistent, seamless advice through our robust international network, supporting businesses as they navigate complex cross-border employment challenges."

The Dublin office's rapid expansion reflects Browne Jacobson's commitment to serving Ireland's booming economy, particularly its world-leading technology sector, where complex cross-border employment challenges require sophisticated legal solutions.

The Dublin office opened in July 2022, with recent appointments to the office including Gavin Bluett, who joined in the Irish corporate team which launched in January 2024. Emma Middleton and Paul Tohill followed as legal directors to establish the firm's real-estate and construction practices in Ireland, respectively.
