Data protection breach navigator

The Information Commissioner’s Office ( ICO ) is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. It is fair to say that the ICO has never been busier. In 2012, twelve local authorities were fined a combined total of £1.2 million for data protection breaches.

Working in or with the public sector, and routinely handling really sensitive personal data, means that you must have robust processes, policies and protocols to minimise the risk of a data protection breach. With eye-watering financial penalties and the risk of disastrous damage to reputation, are you confident that your systems and processes would withstand the consequences of a breach?

Navigator is aimed at organisations who:

  • have no experience of handling information security issues and/or
  • need to demonstrate independence in the investigation and notification process.
  • We will:

  • provide a project plan setting out how to investigate the breach or near miss
  • identify root causes
  • formulate a plan by which the breach can be remedied and minimise the risk of a recurrence
  • provide a written report advising on possible claims and consequences
  • set out factors for you to decide whether affected individuals and/or ICO should be notified
  • draft any notification documents for the ICO

…providing a complete service, with a quick and concise turnaround.
