05 December 2019

Browne Jacobson's education team has been named the winner of the ‘Legal Advisors to Education Institutions’ category at the Education Investor Awards 2019 for the fifth time.

The firm fought off strong competition from a range of other national firms who made the finalists list including Eversheds Sutherland, Pinsent Masons and Mills & Reeve to win the title in what shaped up to be another competitive year.

The awards, now in their tenth year seek to recognise leading contributions from organisations investing, advising and/or operating in the education sector.

The team was judged by a panel of high profile industry experts and recognised for the outstanding contribution they have made to the education sector during 2018/19. The judges praised the firm:

“The diversity of services provided by Browne Jacobson to institutions was a real differentiator this year. Their dominance of the important academy market is remarkable and a testimony to their skills. The firm has demonstrated its commitment to the sector through a strong and interesting programme of thought leadership round tables.

Not only delivering extensive specialist education legal expertise, Browne Jacobson is also providing influential legal and human resources advice and support for the UK schools and academies sector. It hosts various thought leadership initiatives for the UK education sector including roundtable events on leadership challenges and policy, supporting reports, the #EdInfluence podcast channel, and (in collaboration with strategic partners) training resources and guidance papers addressing such decisions as forming or joining a group of schools or multi-academy trust. Cases have responded to a range of challenging issues including counter-terrorism and security, school protests targeting equality, teacher abuse, and FGM.

As a result of acting for the Teacher Regulation Agency and, as a result, translating changing policy and law into practical legal advice, the company has established a wide range of strategic partnerships (three of these as sole provider) with five of the main education sector representative bodies: CST, NGA, ASCL, NAHT and ISBL.”

Commenting on the team’s success Mark Blois, Head of Education at Browne Jacobson, said:

“It is fantastic to again receive recognition for our leading legal education practice which offers our clients innovative products, strategic high quality legal advice and exceptional service.

This award caps off another strong 12 months for the team and reflects the hard work and dedication of our people.”

Browne Jacobson’s award-winning flagship education practice is made up of dedicated and experienced specialist education law solicitors and HR consultants who advise over 1,300 education institutions across the country. They offer advice on a full range of services to education clients to a national client base and are consistently ranked in Band One nationally for their education sector expertise in leading independent legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.
