Preparing for the new Building Regulations in Wales:

Clients procuring building work: 3 March

03 March 2026
Browne Jacobson Cardiff

On 1 July 2026, the regulation of building work in Wales will change completely with the coming into force of The Building etc. (Amendment) (No. 2) (Wales) Regulations 2025 and the Building (Higher-Risk Buildings Procedures) (Wales) Regulations 2025 (the Wales Regulations).

A practical session to consider how clients procuring building work can prepare for the coming into force of the new Building Regulations in Wales on 1 July 2026. This event is suitable for the private and public sector, including developers and education, healthcare, housing association and local authority estate management and procurement teams.

The Wales Regulations introduce new requirements which apply throughout the lifecycle of projects and change the organisational and personal risk profile for anyone involved in the procurement, design or carrying out of building work to any property, regardless of size or type.

The consequences of non-compliance are serious, and can include orders to stop work, the carrying out of intrusive investigations, fines, and even imprisonment.

With the benefit of our lived experience of the equivalent regulation which came into force in England in 2023, this session will consider the practical ways in which clients procuring building work can prepare for the coming into force of the Wales Regulations.

Topics will include:

  • An overview of the key provisions of the Wales Regulations;
  • Pre-contract considerations and the impact on programming, pricing and risk;
  • Competency in the supply chain and the management of downstream risk; and
  • Process mapping and the implementation of systems to manage compliance during the lifecycle of a project.

Register now to secure your place and begin taking the steps to get ahead of the curve of managing your organisational and personal risk profiles before the Wales Regulations come into force.
