Mel is a senior associate in the banking and finance team at Browne Jacobson. She advises both lenders and borrowers on all types of debt finance including acquisition finance, asset-based lending, real estate finance, debt restructuring and general corporate lending. Mel’s recent experience includes advising corporate clients and private equity houses on sponsored transactions.
Mel joined the Browne Jacobson Manchester office in 2014 as a paralegal and has seen the huge growth of the Manchester office in that time. On a day-to-day basis, Mel advises a range of funders including high street banks, challenger banks and debt funds as well as government agencies and corporate borrowers. Outside of the finance world, Mel is passionate about social mobility and has supported various projects including with Manchester Metropolitan University and the firm’s REACH programme.
Advised the Health and Social Care team at Virgin Money on its funding to the New Reflexions group - a provider of specialist care, education and therapy for looked after children in locations across the UK - to support the business with its future growth aspirations.
Advised OakNorth Bank on its loan facilities to Apprentify, a leading provider of digital marketing and tech apprenticeships for the North, including support for the simultaneous bolt-on acquisition of Netcom Training, a West Midlands based provider of government funded IT training courses.
Advised Apiary Capital on facilities provided by Santander for the management buy-out of XVR, a global virtual reality e-learning provider to the emergency services sector.
Acted for the Virgin Money Acquisition Finance team in providing £1.6m of funding for the acquisition of a building supplies business in the North of England.
