Eight schools have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award to find the best secondary school in the UK.

Eight schools have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award to find the best secondary school in the UK.

The schools, which are located in Belfast, Dorset, Greater Manchester, London, Rutland and West Yorkshire, are all competing for the accolade at this year’s TES Schools Awards.

The winner of the ‘Secondary school of the year’ award, which is sponsored by education law firm Browne Jacobson, will also compete with the winners of the early years, primary, and alternative provision school of the year categories for the overall ‘School of the Year’ award.

The TES annual school awards recognise outstanding individuals and institutions that the state and independent sectors have to offer.

The shortlisted schools are:

  • Casterton College, Rutland
  • Cathedral Academy, Wakefield
  • Forest Gate Community School, London
  • Glenmoor and Winton Academies, Bournemouth
  • Harris Garrard Academy, London
  • Hazelwood Integrated College, Belfast
  • Oakwood Academy, Manchester
  • Stockport Academy, Greater Manchester

In spite of the intense challenges the sector faces, all of this year’s shortlisted schools have delivered exceptional results in areas such as pupil attendance, staff retention, parent engagement, exam results, community partnerships and the environment as well as being true beacons of innovation.

“It is a tremendous achievement to make the final shortlist and we wish them all the very best at this year’s awards.

The winners will be revealed at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Friday 21 June 2019.
