Clare Auty

Clare Auty


Clare is Head of our Commercial Health Team and leads the Independent Health and Social Care Sector across the firm.

Clare’s team focuses on Independent Sector health and social care transactions together with commercial contracting for both public and private providers of health and social care services and providers to the sector. Clare has over 20 years’ experience of corporate and commercial matters and private sector governance having spent over 16 years in-house, the vast majority of which has been at Board level and 12 have been in the healthcare sector including secure mental health and IT.

Since joining, Clare has acted on a number of disposals and acquisitions of care homes, supported living businesses and children’s services. Clare has also advised on a number of healthtech start-ups and complex R&D arrangements in both the independent sector and NHS as well as EPR contracting and licensing of Health Apps including those licensed by NHSE on a pilot basis. Clare advises NHS bodies wishing to engage with the Independent Sector and third sector organisations including negotiating JVs and collaboration agreements. Clare runs the popular independent health in-house lawyers forum and annual healthtech forum.

Gerard Hanratty

Gerard Hanratty

Partner and Head of Health

Gerard heads up our health sector and continues to be at the forefront of advising the NHS nationally and health sector overall on the development of ICSs, major service reconfiguration projects and advising on the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is regularly sought for advice on all matters relating to public law, especially when public bodies face judicial reviews. His expertise and pragmatic approach helps clients deliver on their plans and understand how to deal with challenges.

Rebecca Fitzpatrick

Rebecca Fitzpatrick


Specialises in all aspects of mental health and general healthcare law. Vast majority of practice that leads to court involvement is in the Court of Protection (mental capacity issues), the High Court (complex treatment cases, eg involving children), the Administrative Court (judicial review, human rights and community care issues) and the Coroner’s Court.
