Nirmal is an Intellectual Property Associate in the Commercial Team. He specialises in helping clients across the full range of IP rights advising on contentious, commercialisation and advisory matters, across all sectors.
Nirmal has experience in dealing with litigation before the IPEC, High Court and Court of Appeal across a range of matters from life science patent litigation, acting successfully for Alnylam UK against Silence Therapeutics, and for Astellas Pharma against Akebia Therapeutics ([2020] EWHC 866 (Pat), [2021] EWCA Civ 1279), as well as defending a large copyright action for General Hotel Management ([2018] EWHC 2933 (Ch), [2019] EWHC 239 (Ch), 2019 WL 00654106). Most recently Nirmal acted for Marks and Spencer PLC in their successful IPEC action against Aldi Stores for design infringement of their light-up gin liqueur bottles.
Nirmal also has experience in helping clients with IP commercialisation opportunities including advising on IP Audits for a large garment manufacturer and a gym equipment manufacturer and advising on the sale of a large UK fashion brand. Nirmal has extensive experience assisting clients with trade mark matters, both enforcing and defending infringement and passing off actions and advising on trade mark strategy.
Nirmal worked in-house at Reckitt on secondment, providing an invaluable insight into the FMCG sphere. Nirmal advised and negotiated various commercial agreements and contracts, providing guidance on marketing and advertising claims and assisting in various compliance audits.
Nirmal is currently undertaking the PGDip in Intellectual Property Law and Practice at the University of Oxford.
