Nirmal is an intellectual property associate in the commercial team. He specialises in helping clients across the full range of IP rights, advising on contentious, commercialisation and advisory matters, across all sectors, including the electronics, education, life sciences, and retail.
Nirmal has experience in dealing with litigation before the IPEC, High Court and Court of Appeal across a range of matters from life science patent litigation, acting for a number of pharmaceutical companies, as well as defending a large copyright action for a large hospitality chain in the High Court. Most recently, Nirmal acted for a large retailer in a registered designs infringement matter relating to a light-up gin liqueur bottle in the IPEC.
Nirmal also has experience in helping clients with IP commercialisation opportunities, including advising on IP audits for a large garment manufacturer and a gym equipment manufacturer, and advising on the sale of a large UK fashion brand. Nirmal has extensive experience assisting clients with trade mark matters, both bringing and defending infringement and passing off actions and advising on trade mark strategy more generally.
Nirmal worked in-house at Reckitt on secondment, providing an invaluable insight into the FMCG world. Nirmal advised and negotiated various commercial agreements and contracts, providing guidance on marketing and advertising claims and assisting in various compliance audits.
Nirmal completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice at the University of Oxford in 2024.
