Marshal leads Browne Jacobson’s innovative Instant In-house for health solution, which provides health and care organisations across England and Wales with instant access to a full-service team of specialist lawyers when you need it.
Marshal and his team are regularly seconded to NHS Trusts and independent healthcare providers, working as an integrated part of their in-house legal and governance teams. This hands on experience gives Marshal a genuine insight into what clients need from their lawyers: pragmatic, client-focussed solutions that work in the real world.
With over 25 years’ experience in the health and care sector, Marshal has represented NHS Trusts, independent healthcare providers, care homes and medical practitioners across the full spectrum of legal challenges. His career includes working for a leading medical defence organisation for several years, and before that working for a leading firm representing patients and families in personal injury and clinical negligence claims.
The Legal 500 describes Marshal as “caring and thoughtful”. He has been shortlisted for several awards including the Law Society Excellence Awards 2020 'Solicitor of the Year - In House'.
Marshal is also an experienced inquest advocate who is trusted by clients to provide user-friendly, straightforward advice and skilled representation at inquests, supporting witnesses and organisations throughout the process. His inquest expertise is complemented by comprehensive medico-legal knowledge spanning adverse incidents, confidentiality, complaints, consent, data protection, disclosure, defamation, disciplinary matters, GMC queries and whistleblowing legislation.
Marshal appreciates whilst on secondment, adding value to the client is key. Marshal’s experience includes managing a caseload of complex claims and inquests up to and including the advocacy in court, working closely with the in-house team, liaising with clinicians, heads of divisions and departments, senior personnel in governance, Medical Directors and Chief Medical Officers.

Supporting the on-call consultant, registrar, ward manager and nurses through the inquest process and advising on prevention of future death strategy. Involved detailed analysis of the documented falls risk assessment completed and documented observations.
Heart surgery death Inquest
Representing the acute Trust at an inquest following heart surgery. Patient died during a procedure to insert a stent to treat an acute thrombotic occlusion. Supporting the surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre staff. Advising the Trust on prevention of future death strategy.
