Elise is a Principal Associate specialising in commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with extensive experience advising clients in a range of complex business disputes. Elise acts for clients across a variety of sectors. She has particular experience in shareholder disputes, derivative actions, claims arising out of alleged breaches of directors’ duties and complex or high-value contractual disputes.  

Elise also has experience in defamation, privacy and data protection matters and has developed a public law practice acting for various organisations, including a large non-departmental public body, in judicial review proceedings in both the High Court and Court of Appeal.  

She provides advice to clients at all stages of the litigation process whether at pre-action stage, in urgent applications for injunctive relief or in preparing cases for settlement discussions or trial. She regularly represents and supports clients at mediation and has seen how alternative dispute resolution can achieve commercially effective outcomes.  

Elise is recognised by clients for being pragmatic and commercially aware. She works closely with clients to understand their businesses and strives to provide clear, strategic and client-orientated advice.  

Elise graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast with a (LLB honours) degree in Law with French. As part of her degree, she spent a year studying law at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. She then obtained a postgraduate diploma in Professional Legal Studies with commendation. 

Elise is qualified to practise in Northern Ireland and England and Wales.  

Recent experience

  • Acting for a director shareholder in a highly contentious dispute involving an unfair prejudice petition and application for injunctive relief which resulted in a multi-million pound settlement following an ADR process.  
  • Brought an emergency application for a freezing order before the High Court in a multi-jurisdictional dispute, seeking to prevent assets being moved outside the jurisdiction. 
  • Advising a major American technology company in an action involving a Disclosure Order and related jurisdictional issues.  
  • Representing a client in a series of judicial review challenges before the High Court and also before a Council Planning Committee at which planning permission was granted.  

Elise is ranked as a “Star Associate” by Chambers and Partners with market sources describing her as “very capable, good with clients and personable” and “a very attentive and safe pair of hands for our case.”  

She is also admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.
