Dan is a Principal Associate based in Cardiff, specialising in mental capacity, mental health and social care law. Dan regularly advises both public and private sector clients and have extensive experience of bringing and responding to applications on behalf of local authorities and health providers in connection with the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards framework.

Dan has experience of regularly advising on matters when individuals lack capacity in complex welfare disputes involving sensitive issues such as social media, sexual relations, residence, care and contact. Dan is adapt to advise on all matters relating to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the relevant Code of Practice, Mental Health Act 1983, issues surrounding consent to medical treatment, detention and restraint.

Dan acts on behalf of local authorities in complex public law children proceedings and has developed a specialism in cases involving the most serious and sensitive safeguarding concerns. Dan regularly advises on matters where children are at risk as a result of domestic abuse within the family home, including cases involving coercive and controlling behaviour, and is well versed in navigating the evidential and procedural challenges that this can present. Dan has considerable experience in proceedings where parental substance misuse (including alcohol and drug dependency) is a central issue, working closely with experts, social workers, and other professionals to ensure the court has the clearest possible picture of the risks posed to children.

Dan studied his Law degree at Cardiff University before completing his CILEx studies at the Cardiff and Vale College. Dan then studied with Barbri and QLTS School in London, to cross-qualify as a Solicitor. Dan qualified as a Solicitor through the SQE route and scored amongst the top 10% performers for his cohort, both for SQE1 and SQE2.

Dan joined Browne Jacobson in March 2025. Prior to joining Browne Jacobson, Dan worked for both national and global firms in London and Cardiff.

Dan is a fluent Welsh speaker and is placed to advise bilingually.
