Barbara is a partner and head of the Commercial Disputes Team in Belfast with over 20 years of experience of complex commercial disputes.
Barbara has led some of Northern Ireland’s most significant landmark cases, covering a wide variety of sectors. Her work frequently comprises of complex business ownership disputes, business crime and fraud, commercial contract disputes, professional disputes, property and technology and product disputes. She has significant experience of both local and multi-jurisdictional disputes.
Barbara has extensive experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution and always seeks the most commercially advantageous outcomes for her clients.
Barbara qualified in Northern Ireland in 2005 and was previously a partner in one of Ireland’s largest law firms.
Barbara is known for her highly commercial, down-to-earth approach. She has a proven track record of obtaining excellent results in complicated disputes.
She is dual-qualified to practise in Northern Ireland and England and Wales and holds a certificate in Advanced Advocacy.

A partner
Barbara is leading a high value, complex agricultural partnership dispute. She successfully brought an application for the appointment of a Court appointed Accountant and Valuation Expert which has been pivotal in reducing complexity and allowing for the narrowing of issues. As a result of this the client is in a much stronger position and the case is suitable for mediation, which is occurring imminently. The prospects for the client are very significantly enhanced due to strategy adopted.
A retailer of automated equipment
Barbara successfully led the defense of a case concerning high tech automated machinery. Barbara instructed appropriate experts, carried out site inspections, advised on strategy and conducted the litigation in such a manner as to allow for an efficient disposal of the matter, reducing the risk to the client very significantly.
A shareholder
Barbara led a team for a 50% shareholder in complex Unfair Prejudice proceedings consisting of allegations including misappropriation of company funds and allegations concerning a purported removal of a director. Injunction proceedings were resolved by way of comprehensive undertakings and the case resolved for the client following a joint consultation.
A shareholder of a cutting-edge technology company
Barbara led a team in a complex shareholder dispute concerning a successful technology company. The case involved an application for interim injunctive relief grounded on Unfair Prejudice Proceedings involving extensive pleadings. The case was resolved efficiently, following Barbara’s instruction of expert evidence, by way of mediation, with a very successful outcome obtained for the client, which represented an improvement in their position in excess of 100% from an earlier proposition.
