Understanding data protection

The importance of schools and academies complying with the Data Protection Act (‘DPA’) is greater than ever. All education providers store and process significant volumes of data and information and need to be aware how they should retain, manage and share such information. The numerous examples of the threats posed by mishandling of personal information, including data loss, fraud and exploitation has recently led to the introduction of potentially hefty penalties of up to £500,000 for infringements of the DPA.
