Browne Jacobson will support in-house lawyers at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on a broad range of commercial and legal matters after a contract win.
The UK and Ireland law firm has been appointed to a legal panel that enables it to provide ad-hoc commercial legal support to members of the Government Legal Department (GLD) team working for the DWP.
It was awarded the contract, which runs from July 2025 to November 2027, following a proposal submitted under the Crown Commercial Service legal services framework.
Browne Jacobson is one of three law firms that will provide strategic legal support to the DWP on a wide range of contract and procurement activities, including litigation, across its responsibilities for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy.
Anja Beriro, Partner in the government team at Browne Jacobson, said:
“This contract award is another shining example of our strengths in advising central government departments on the full spectrum of legal matters, both on a day-to-day and strategic basis.
“Building on previous work we’ve carried out for the DWP on procurement and contract matters via the CCS framework, this reinforces our relationship with a government body that has a hugely influential role in the daily lives of many people – encapsulating our ambition to support clients operating at the forefront of society’s biggest issues.
“Following reforms to how the public sector buys goods and services under the Procurement Act 2023, which came into force earlier this year, it’s never been more important to receive trusted legal advice that ensures procurement is streamlined, transparent and effective.”
DWP is the latest central government department to award a contract to Browne Jacobson, which is an approved supplier to the CCS and GLD.
The firm also advises the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Cabinet Office, and Crown Prosecution Service via the CCS framework.
