Yawar is the firmwide Head of Immigration at Browne Jacobson, specialising in UK immigration and nationality law. He acts as a trusted adviser to established UK and international businesses, organisations entering the UK market and multinational employers, supporting them through complex immigration and workforce mobility challenges.

He advises clients ranging from start-ups and scale-ups to blue-chip organisations on sponsor licence compliance, right to work obligations, corporate transactions, business restructures and global mobility. His approach is strategic and commercially focused, helping clients manage immigration risk while enabling business growth.

Yawar advises across the full spectrum of business immigration matters, including sponsor licence applications and compliance, right to work issues, Home Office investigations and global mobility programmes. He has particular experience advising on the immigration aspects of mergers and acquisitions and wider corporate reorganisations, ensuring continuity of compliance during periods of structural and operational change. He also advises individuals on complex immigration and nationality matters, including applications under section 4L of the British Nationality Act 1981.

He works closely with colleagues across the firm, particularly in the employment, corporate and commercial teams, to deliver integrated advice on matters spanning immigration, workforce planning and transactional projects.

Regulated sector compliance: Right to work obligations

Advised a financial institution facing potential civil penalty exposure for illegal working. Undertook a full right to work compliance review, advised on policy and process improvements, delivered staff training and engaged with the Home Office, resulting in avoidance of a civil penalty and implementation of a strengthened compliance framework.

Corporate transactions and workforce change

Advised on immigration aspects of multiple mergers, acquisitions and corporate reorganisations, including due diligence on sponsor licence obligations, review of immigration warranties and structuring of cross-border workforce arrangements. Worked closely with corporate and employment teams to ensure continuity of compliance during transactional change.

High-growth technology businesses: Sponsor licensing

Advised a technology and artificial intelligence business operating with a virtual business model on securing a sponsor licence, addressing Home Office scrutiny in relation to UK presence and operational structure. The licence enabled the client to sponsor skilled workers in the UK.

Global mobility and workforce strategy

Advised multinational employers in financial and professional services on cross-border mobility frameworks, including sponsor licence compliance reviews and mock Home Office audits, identifying key risks and strengthening governance and audit readiness.

Senior executive immigration: ILR and naturalisation

Advised ExCo and C-suite members of multinational employers in the financial services and natural resources sectors on indefinite leave to remain and naturalisation applications, managing complex absence histories and high-stakes personal circumstances for senior individuals and their families.

Complex nationality matters: British citizenship applications

Advised on complex British nationality matters, including applications under section 4L of the British Nationality Act 1981, securing British citizenship in cases involving discretionary Home Office decision-making and historical unfairness.

Port refusal: Entry clearance and visit visa

Advised on and successfully challenged a refusal of leave to enter at the UK border for a US national, engaging with Border Force and the Home Office to overturn the decision. Subsequently secured a visit visa, enabling resumption of business travel to the UK.

New UK market entry: Global Business Mobility

Advised an overseas business on one of the UK’s early applications under the Global Business Mobility — Expansion Worker route, enabling establishment of a UK presence and deployment of key personnel. Subsequently advised on transition to Skilled Worker sponsorship, navigating complexity arising from the client’s evolving corporate structure.
