Kelsey’s experience spans Inquests, Serious Medical Treatment cases and Court of Protection proceedings. She has strong relationships with key health clients, such as NHS Integrated Care Boards, Acute Trusts and Mental Health Trusts, as well as various local authorities.

During her time in the team, Kelsey has been involved in various pre-inquest meetings, document reviews, preparation of bundles and statement reviews. She was seconded for six months to a Mental Health Trust to assist with the client’s demanding inquest workload. Kelsey became a key member of the Trust’s small internal legal team, primarily on their inquest case load. Kelsey engaged with clinicians to ensure best evidence was achieved and delivered to the coroner.

Kelsey’s practice also involves matters in the Court of Protection and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS). She regularly drafts and issues matters under s.16 and s.21a of the Mental Capacity Act, working with our clients to build a picture of a vulnerable person’s social and health care needs to ensure they are addressed and authorised, where they amount to a DOL. She has also had experience working on serious medical treatment matters, involving a person who lacks mental capacity but requires emergency treatment due to a potential serious harm or threat to their life.

Before starting her career in law, Kelsey worked as an intelligence officer for a government agency tackling modern slavery and labour exploitation.
