Expertise

Featured experience

Discontinuance of a claim

Forcing the discontinuance of a claim for occupational asthma following the identification of numerous concerns that the Claimant’s case was dishonest.

Workplace accident

Persuading a Claimant to discontinue his workplace accident claim valued at one stage at over £1 million having identified a multitude of inconsistencies enabling the client to raise positive allegations of fundamental dishonesty.

Walsall Council

Securing two findings of fundamental dishonesty for Walsall Council, which led on one case to a Claimant receiving a suspended custodial sentence and in the other to a Claimant being sent to prison for 6 months.

Fulham FC

Matthew represented Fulham FC, the successful appellant, in the leading case of Jones v Fulham FC on civil injury claims in the sports context. On Appeal, the Appeal Court overturned a judgment that had found Fulham liable for a reckless tackle.  Importantly, the judgment confirms that the threshold for civil liability in the sporting context is very high. Fulham succeeded on all four of its grounds of appeal which led to the discontinuance of the claim.
