With over 30 years’ experience Richard is a partner in our planning, environmental and public law team. Richard and his team provide strategic and development control planning advice. He advises on environmental law and helps clients devise practical solutions and outcomes. Richard advises many organisations on governance, judicial review and vires issues. He regularly advises upon public law risk and how to minimise the risk of challenge when discharging key functions. He acts for a wide range of public and commercial clients.
Richard’s team have advised Natural England and Natural Resources Wales (and their respective predecessors) on over 1,000 matters over the last 25 years.

We advised First Sentier Investors, in collaboration with Latham & Watkins, on their recent energy from waste acquisitions for over £995m.
Our team led on the due diligence of the operational and planned energy from waste facilities nationwide and covered Development Consent Orders and also more traditional planning consents.
Bassetlaw District Council
Advising Bassetlaw District Council in relation to the contravention of conditions of the environmental permit by a mushroom composting facility - the council have prosecuted the company and the court imposed a fine of £32,000 plus legal costs.
Kettering East - restructuring planning obligations
Restructuring the planning obligations for the delivery of infrastructure of Kettering East, a major sustainable urban extension to the east of Kettering intended to deliver 5,000 dwellings, so that contributions are delivered as dwellings are built rather than from upfront payments.

Advising Natural Resources body for Wales in the defence of judicial review proceedings concerning the Rhosydd Bryn Maen site of special scientific interest.
