Five Mins With... Ann Cojeen

We take 5 minutes out with Ann Cojeen to discuss her career to date, how she starts her day and which mystery she would like to know the answer to.

19 November 2021

Which area of law do you specialise in?

I deal with all aspects of real estate transactional law from acquisitions and disposals including developments, strategic estates management and portfolio management. I act predominantly for public and private sector clients in the health sector. I also act for some funders supporting health developments.

In five words describe the work you do.

Delivering estates solutions for clients.

What has been your career highlight to date?

Acting for East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust in relation to its blue light scheme which championed the idea of One Public Estate across the various blue light services. It involved delivering a strategic estates-focussed review and the implementation of a variety of solutions with the police and fire authorities as partners. Collaboration was key and all parties embraced the spirit of the enterprise. I’m really proud to have been a part of this project.

Tell us something about yourself others probably don’t know.

When I was younger, I was a bit of an adrenaline junkie. On a trip to New Zealand, I got the bug and did three bungy jumps, a tandem skydive and river sledging. Years later and with a family, I’m not sure I’d do any of those things again … except perhaps the skydive which was the most amazing, exhilarating, serene experience I’ve ever had!

What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?

I could talk all day about the best film soundtracks and how a great soundtrack can really enhance a film. The best music really enhances a film so that you are truly immersed in the moment.

What’s the best way to start the day?

I love going for an early morning swim. One of my favourite places to be is in the water. It energises me for the day ahead.

What mystery do you wish you knew the answer to?

Is there intelligent life out there in the universe? I’d love to believe that there is but I’d sincerely hope it was friendly and that we can learn from it.
