26 August 2022 Public sector exits – your chance to input to HM Treasury consultation

This month, HM Treasury issued a consultation on Administrative Control Process for Public Sector Exits with draft guidance. They’re proposing to introduce an expanded approvals process for employee exits and special severance payments, and additional reporting requirements. If approved, the proposals will impact public sector bodies and those that do not have a specific right to make exit payments.

It took over 5 years for secondary legislation implementing the £95,000 cap on public sector exit payments to be brought into force; only a few months after their implementation, the Government announced in February of this year that the Public Sector Exit Payments Regulations 2020 would be revoked, citing ‘unintended consequences’ which had been identified after ‘extensive review’.
