managing public sector contracts seminar

9.30am - 1.30pm

Learn from our experts about how the latest changes in the law impact your organisation

Browne Jacobson have joined forces with leading chambers, 39 Essex Chambers, for a full morning session looking at some of the thorniest problems that the public sector face in procurement, contract management and dispute resolution. The morning will consist of 4 sessions led by a panel of leading public sector commercial lawyers.

  • Effective Procurement - How to ensure you get the best out of the procurement process, so you can get your relationship right from the start. Mike will consider how to ensure previous contract performance is captured in the selection process, how to give due consideration in the evaluation to the terms and conditions of contract and how the contractor intends to perform and the scope for negotiating effective contracts in the procurement - Mike Mousdale, Browne Jacobson
  • Dispute resolution - Whether the challenge is to the decision to award the contract, or to the legality of that process, or to the steps taken once the contract is concluded, disputes relating to public sector contracts frequently arise. Parishil's talk will provide public sector clients with the most cost and time effective ways of avoiding, managing and resolving such disputes – Parishil Patel QC, 39 Essex Chambers
  • Termination of contracts - The decision whether to terminate a contract is one of the most difficult decisions an employer will make and one of the worst scenarios faced by a contractor. Getting that decision wrong can cause huge legal and commercial difficulties. Adam’s talk will cover the issues that employers and contractors need to consider and the pitfalls for all sides. He will look at both termination at common law and termination under contractual procedures – Adam Robb QC, 39 Essex Chambers
  • Variation of contracts – What does regulation 72 actually mean and what are the key things to remember when faced with the need to vary long term contracts – Peter Ware, Browne Jacobson

This will be an interactive morning session with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get involved. Following the close of the formal session, lunch will be served, when you will have a chance to network further.
