Browne Jacobson secures key Insurance London Consortium panel appointment

Insurance and public sector specialist law firm Browne Jacobson has been successfully appointed by the Insurance London Consortium (ILC) to handle insurance litigation claims on behalf of a group of seven London Boroughs.

The consortium was set up in order to share best practice, improve risk management, utilise combined purchasing power to achieve cost reduction, improve value by specifying terms of engagement and improve efficiencies through a partnership approach.

Browne Jacobsons 30 strong local authority insurance litigation practice specialises in defendant work and has substantial public sector claims experience, acting for over 60 local authorities.

The team, which is further supported by 140 lawyers in the wider insurance practice, is nationally recognised for its expertise and rated by legal directory Chambers as leaders in its field for both its insurance and public sector practice.

Browne Jacobson partner David Maggs, who has more than 20 years experience of defending local authorities in all types of insurance litigation claims, said:

Reaction: Supreme Court rules no duty of care in negligence in Poole Borough Council v GN and another

This morning (6 June) the Supreme Court has handed down its decision in Poole Borough Council v GN and another. The court dismissed the appeal and upheld the decision in the lower court that the claim should be struck out. The claim addresses broad issues with the potential to impact on negligence claims against many public bodies including health and education.
