This is an important training course for practising clinicians and any NHS professionals who would benefit from understanding the inquest process, including those working in clinical governance and risk, complaints, family liaison and in-house legal teams.

This virtual Mock Inquest training course will provide essential knowledge, tools and insights delivered by the Senior Coroner for Derby and South Derbyshire and other legal experts. The course covers the inquest process from start to finish and provides practical advice and guidance on reporting deaths and certification, writing reports for the Coroner and giving oral evidence in court or remotely. It includes a mock in-person inquest and a mock remote inquest hearing to provide a realistic experience of an inquest hearing from opening to Conclusion and aims to introduce delegates to best practice when dealing with inquest hearings. The Mock Inquest course also considers the wider implications of an inquest for the organisations and clinicians involved, looking at media coverage, compensation claims, disciplinary and professional implications.

The Mock Inquest course is split into three 1.5 hour modules, all delivered remotely:

1pm - 2.30pm

On24 Webinar

This session will be delivered by Dr Robert Hunter, HM Senior Coroner for Derby and South Derbyshire and Simon Tait, Head of Health Advisory and Litigation, Browne Jacobson Solicitors and Assistant Coroner for Yorkshire South East.

During the session, Dr Hunter will take you through the new statutory duties under the Notification of Death Regulations and the role of the Medical Examiner. Dr Hunter will provide practical hints and tips for reporting deaths and advice and guidance on reporting Covid-19 deaths to the Coroner.

Simon Tait will then provide an overview of the inquest process and an introduction to Coronial law.

12pm - 1.30pm
