care cap consultation

2 March 2015

The Government is consulting on draft regulations and guidance on the cap on care costs due to be introduced on 1 April 2016, and the appeals system to consider whether the cap has been reached. Responses are due by 30 March this year, and the draft guidance contains various questions for consultees to respond to.

The cap arises from the Dilnot Commission’s proposals, and the Government cannot resist giving itself a little pat on the back, saying: “How people pay for care and support has long been debated, but with little progress. This government is the first to tackle this issue and is doing so during one of the most difficult economic periods in economic history.” It might also add that it is doing so against the background of an increasingly ageing population. The issue was one which could simply not continue to go unaddressed.

Have they got it right? Now is your chance to have a say.
