Exclusions support

With new Statutory Exclusions guidance coming into practice in September 2022, schools and academies will need to adapt to the changes to the behaviour, suspension and exclusion framework and guidance. Our national team of education lawyers have designed a range of high-quality support, training and resources to help you prepare to meet the new regulations.

New guidance on exclusions – free webinar

We offer a free one hour webinar to run through the key changes brought in by the new guidance and the practical implications for your school.

Exclusions training for senior leaders and governing boards

We are delivering online interactive training to small cohorts of leaders, governors and trustees. The first of these sessions run in September, 10-12 noon on Wednesday 21 and 28. This training will help ensure schools are compliant with exclusions law and guidance as well as considering wider issues.

Exclusions Support Pack – templates and resources

Our expert team has designed a comprehensive Exclusions Support Pack to help maintained schools and academies ensure any decision to suspend or exclude is lawful. The pack contains a range of high quality templates to manage the entire process. This gives you the confidence that your approach is consistent, up to date and legally compliant while saving you time and resource.

Expert support for independent review panel hearings

We regularly support schools at independent review panel (IRP) hearings and can help you by providing expert legal representation and clerking support.

During an IRP the governing board’s decision to uphold a permanent exclusion is scrutinised. We recognise that this can often be a daunting and uncomfortable experience without the support from a legal representative.

The key role of a clerk to the IRP is to advise the panel on the general law and procedure relating to exclusions, take notes of the evidence and draft the decision letter.
