partnership launches new legal service for FE sector

2 February 2016
One of the country’s leading education law firms has joined forces with NWL Legal Focus to launch a new bespoke legal services offering to the FE sector across the East Midlands.

Browne Jacobson and NWL Legal Focus, the in-house legal team at North West Leicestershire District Council, have teamed up to offer sixth form colleges, further education colleges and independent providers a full range of legal services including corporate governance, planning, finance, procurement, property, construction and commercial agreement expertise.

The new partnership offers clients the best value for service from lawyers with expertise in both the private and public sector who share a common ethos in the way they work.

With its base in the public sector, NWL Legal Focus has been providing further education legal services for several years, offering quality, experience and expertise to a wide ranging and growing client base. Its grounding in the public sector means that its lawyers have a unique understanding of the issues affecting public bodies and are experienced in identifying innovative ways of overcoming them.

Browne Jacobson has a dedicated 30 strong team of education lawyers and HR consultants with extensive experience of the FE sector.

As well as being one of the country’s leading adviser to schools, the team currently acts for colleges nationally and works closely in partnership with bodies such as the Association of School and College Leaders and the Association of Colleges.

Kerren Daly, employment partner who specialises in the FE sector at Browne Jacobson, said:

“The FE sector is facing many interesting challenges. The Government is currently carrying out a nationwide review of post 16 education and training and we are expecting significant changes to be announced once the review has been completed next year. These changes could have major implications for the FE sector leading to strong demand for legal advice and expertise in areas such as human resources, estates management, corporate and commercial, charity and litigation. As well as being a strong fit in terms of our approach to legal services, this joint initiative with NWL Legal Focus is an excellent example of the private and public sector working successfully together to deliver in-depth sector knowledge, value added services and an exceptional client experience.”

Elizabeth Warhurst, Head of Legal and Support Services at NWL Legal Focus, said:

“After providing high quality legal services for the FE sector for a number of years, we were keen to broaden our offer, and Browne Jacobson help to give us that range. This partnership means we can build on our success so far and go further in what we can offer the FE sector. We are thrilled to be working with Browne Jacobson on a service that we believe offers the best of both worlds.”
