qualification and looking to the future

18 May 2011

As a second year this week is the week I have been eagerly anticipating – the week the job list is announced. I can only compare it to A-level results day when you wait to see in black and white which direction your future is going.

It was last Friday when the email landed in the second year’s inbox and we are now in the process of applying for the areas we wish to qualify in.

This year has been a bumper year for jobs. With more jobs on the list than trainees there is certainly plenty of choice. Surprisingly, as it is the smaller office, Birmingham has an equal share of the jobs on offer, which is good news for our in-take as half of us initially started in Brimingham.

Applying for Newly Qualified jobs is a stressful time but with the amount of choice on offer the pressure has certainly been lifted slightly. The process has also been made as simple as possible. The firm’s aim is that all positions will be confirmed by the end of May which will certainly help with our piece of mind and financial security.

Whilst the number of jobs was initially a surprise, the job list comes as the firm announces a record turnover for the last financial year. The firm’s revenue grew by 6.3% last year entitling all those who are eligible to a 2.5% performance award. The future certainly looks bright for Browne Jacobson trainees, and the firm as a whole, after what has been a difficult time for the legal industry.

I am both looking forward to qualification and nervous at the same time. However, I do feel prepared, and look forward to improving and developing the skills I have already acquired along the way.
