Browne Jacobson advises Pedigree Wholesale on acquisition of Just for Pets

6 November 2017
Browne Jacobson has advised Pedigree Wholesale on its acquisition of Worcestershire based Just for Pets for an undisclosed sum, rescuing the pet food specialist from administration.

A team led by corporate finance partner Gavin Cummings, with support from Suki Tonks (property) and Sandra Wong (corporate finance), provided legal advice to Nottingham based Pedigree Wholesale. Ben Barrett and John Carpenter, of Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery LLP, were appointed as joint administrators for ‘Just for Pets’.

The deal, which was completed for Pedigree Wholesale’s subsidiary company PSR Trading Limited, will see 18 stores nationally and 180 in-store and head – office jobs saved.

Just for Pets was set up in 1993 and offered a wide range of food, toys, accessories and training aids for pet owners both online and through a national chain of 25 pet superstores, located mostly throughout the Midlands.

Pedigree Wholesale was established in 1972 and has grown into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of pet and aquatic products into the independent pet retail sector with a portfolio of over 12,500 products from the leading brands around the world. The company operates from a national network of five distribution centres strategically located throughout the UK.

Steve Brown, MD of Pedigree Wholesale comments:

“We are confident that the addition of Just for Pets to the Pedigree Wholesale business creates the opportunity to develop our product range and through even greater economy of scale and buying power we can achieve cost savings which we believe will also benefit all wholesale customers.”

Gavin Cummings, added:

"We are delighted to have assisted Pedigree Wholesale in making this strategic acquisition and in securing the future of the business.”
