Sharing a site and enhancing environmental education at Newport
Wetlands Reserve
The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) required advice in
relation to a lease of land at Newport Wetlands Reserve to the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), who planned to
construct and operate an environmental education centre on the
site. CCW did not want the development of the centre to adversely
impact upon its use and operation of the site and a solution was
required for the phasing of tenant’s works

Opposing a substantial development at planning inquiry
stage
The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW)
appointed us to oppose a substantial development comprising over
50,000 square feet of commercial space, 1,750 houses and other
elements including a football stadium and hotel. The proposal
was being supported by the planning authority and the opposition
was on the grounds of the impact on the historic landscape and
nature conservation interests.

Defending against an Environment Agency investigation
A major manufacturer and importer
was being investigated by the Environment Agency for non-compliance
with the Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Regulations
2005. The case also included a calculation of the avoided
costs from non-compliance.
