Protecting Footballs World Series as it expands

the challenge:

Footballs World Series is one of the world’s leading independent sports management businesses having organised 25 international football tournaments with participation from 41 of the world’s leading club sides.  They have recently staged tournaments in Dubai and Shanghai and their aim was to spread the World Series brand into both Asia and the United States to assist leading European Clubs looking to expand their ‘brands’ globally.  All while protecting their rights when entering into crucial contracts and joint ventures with overseas partners.

our approach:

We met with our client to understand their objectives and discuss how best to achieve these.  We assisted with the incorporation of new companies in overseas jurisdictions and drafted and negotiated key commercial contracts to protect our clients’ interests.  We also acted on the acquisition of the Amsterdam Tournament, ensuring that our client achieved a fair and competitive deal; advised on a joint venture agreement with Sports Fusion Asia to deliver the Hong Kong & Macau Tournament and provided advice on intellectual property issues, including the registration of trademarks such as the World Series Football logo.

the result:

The client’s business has benefited from expansion into new territories, enhancing their global offering and market presence.  They now have three annual Tournaments, Amsterdam, Dubai and Rotterdam, all on long term contracts with Governments and Local Authorities in each city as their partners.
