Recovering a claim from a utility company

the challenge:

Our client and their policyholder worked together to quickly resolve an insurance claim at a dairy farm. The claim arose when the electrics were affected during a storm, interfering with dairy production. We were instructed to recover the losses if possible.

our approach:

We assessed the dairy and farm management practices of the policyholder and investigated the cause of the electrical failure. Working with electrical engineering experts, we were able to establish that the disruption had been caused by a power surge from the cables linking up to the National Grid and that the cables had not been well maintained over the years. This enabled us to target a utility company for recovery. A claim was submitted and court proceedings were initiated. We persuaded the defendant that liability was likely to attach, as a result of which the claim was paid.
