Where are they now?
Name:
David Hibbert
Position then
(1972):
Articled Clerk (Trainee Solicitor)
Position now
(2008):
Senior Partner
David began his career at Browne Jacobson
qualifying as a solicitor in 1972. He has been a partner for over
29 years and has been senior partner since 1999.
‘I have spent my entire professional
career working in Browne Jacobson’s Nottingham office. The
application process was very different then and I applied by
sending a speculative letter to a partner. I began as an articled
clerk which was the title a new solicitor used to be given instead
of trainee and spent much of my first 18 months at the firm in the
property department. I then spent six years doing corporate work
before moving back to property to head up the department.’
‘When I first accepted the job as an
articled clerk I was offered £8 a week, on my first day they
informed me that they had thought about it and decided to pay me
£12 a week instead. That extra £4 made me work much
harder!’
'I was fortunate enough to become a
partner within two years of qualifying and became an equity partner
two years after that. With this came extra responsibility and when
I became head of property I found myself leading an ever expanding
team. The imperative to learn and develop new skills was a strong
one and it is something the firm has always encouraged and
supported.'
‘I’ve worked here over 30 years and can
honestly say I’ve never seriously considered leaving. My role has
been constantly challenging and I’ve always got on with the people
here, they are really very good at what they do.’
