Meet the team

Focus on....Employers and Public liability

Name:

Gabor Taller

Position:

1st year trainee

Current seat:

Personal injury. I am involved in a range of matters such as employers' liability and public liability claims along with highway claims for employers, NHS Trusts and local authorities.

Who is in your team?

The team is headed up by Susan Mabbott and Adrian Shardlow and includes the following people: Gary Epkenyoung, Jonothan Cook, Craig Wallace, Marsha Godwin, Sue Slade, Stuart Shipley, Sarah Hutton, Andrew Christon, Melissa Deeming, Herjit Khinda, James Fawcett, Suzanne Hawkins, Helen Rideout, Vicky Hemsell and Vicky Rippon.

What does your team do?

The team defends its clients in employer and public liability claims.

What is your role in the team?

I have been involved with reporting on liability and quantum issues for clients, contesting cost schedules after settlement, locating experts in a wide range of fields, taking witness statements and assessing the value of potential claims. I have been sent to attend court and have had a lot of client and policy holder contact.

Recent team achievements:

The team have been working for the NHSLA on a secondment basis. This involves, amongst other things, running 200 of their files on a remote handling basis and also investigating pre-action claims on a fixed fee contract. From this arrangement the team have inherited a large amount of new cases after they have become litigated.

The team have also recently secured all of the employer and public liability work from Center Parcs.

It is also worth mentioning that the team is currently enjoying a phenomenal amount of success at trial.

Describe a case you have recently been involved in and why you found it interesting

I was involved in attending and advising a policyholder of one of our clients who owns a food processing company. One of their employees had managed to slice off his fingers on a circular blade by, you've guessed it, putting his hand in between the blades.

This was of particular interest as not only was there a potential employer liability claim facing our client, but the Health and Safety Executive were also bringing a prosecution, therefore we were advising on both the civil and criminal elements in this case.

Current key clients

NHSLA, NFUM, Center Parcs, Gallagher Bassett, Norfolk County Council.
