Browne Jacobson Helps Move On Travellers
Browne Jacobson has played a central role in evicting travellers
from the Nottingham City Hospital.
The unwelcome visitors took up residence at the site over the
weekend (20/21July). Their presence could have prevented the air
ambulance from landing if it had been required to take patients to
the hospital’s specialist burns unit. They were also parked just
yards from a unit for patients seriously ill with cancer.
The issue was resolved in just three days. During that time the
firm used a standard procedure under the Civil Procedure Rules
against ‘Persons Unknown’ and due to the team’s familiarity with
the procedure, they were able to deal with the matter swiftly.
Commenting on the measures that could be put in place to prevent
further problems, David says, “It is very difficult to protect
yourself fully against unlawful acts. You can take physical
measures to protect the land itself and should do all you can in
that respect. Where appropriate, good security is essential.”
Clive Young, Security Manager at Nottingham City Hospital says,
“The travellers arrived on Saturday evening and we contacted Browne
Jacobson first thing on Monday morning. Their prompt action meant
that, with their help, we were able to serve an injunction by the
following evening and the travellers left the site immediately.
“It is important that we act quickly in these situations because
of the potential risks to critically ill patients if the air
ambulance cannot land on site, as well as the additional costs
incurred and the disruption involved with providing extra security
for our patients, visitors and staff, and cleaning up
afterwards.”
