6 May 2008Gavin Cummings, Partner

Browne Jacobson has been named corporate law firm of the year at the East Midlands Insider Dealmaker Awards held this month.

The firm beat off competition from Eversheds, Geldards and Freeth Cartwright to land the prestigious award.

The award caps a memorable year for the firm during which overall turnover reached a record breaking £35m. The past twelve months has also been an exceptionally busy year for the corporate finance and commercial teams with turnover growing by 26%. During this period, its corporate and banking teams advised on more than 100 transactions with a deal value in excess of £1 billion.

Corporate Partner Gavin Cummings said:

“This is a fantastic result for our corporate practice and the firm and recognises the strength in depth of our team. This award is voted for by the local corporate finance community and is therefore a genuine reflection of the standing and achievements of the corporate and banking teams - and of the teams that support them - over the last year.”

High profile East Midlands deals Browne Jacobson has advised on during the year include:

  • Acted for Loomis (formerly Securitas) upon its acquisition of UK cash handling business of Brink’s

  • Acting for the shareholders of SOL Construction on the £21m sale of SOL Construction to ROK PLC - one of the major corporate disposals in the East Midlands during the year

  • Acting on the sale of XMA, a specialist supplier of IT products with a turnover of £200million

  • Acting for LDC on its exit and management on £77m secondary buy-out of Brittons
