26 September 2007

Midlands law firm Browne Jacobson has further improved its position in the West Midlands legal market by achieving a range of impressive rankings in top legal directory, Legal 500.

The firm achieved new entries in the areas of corporate tax, information technology and property litigation and moved up the rankings for its public sector (health) and commercial property practice areas. It has also consolidated its rankings from last year’s edition in banking and finance, corporate and commercial, employment, clinical negligence (defendant) (retaining their position on the top spot for the seventh successive year), personal injury (defendant), professional negligence, and intellectual property.

The firm has only had a Birmingham presence since 1999 but significant growth in the past two years since its move to Victoria Square House has seen the firm double in size with a headcount of over 100 including 14 partners. Turnover for the office has also increased at a rapid rate, this year reaching £7.4million. The growth demonstrates a 25% year-on-year increase with the turnover of the commercial teams growing between 50 and 75%.

Managing partner, Brian Smith commented on the offices performance saying 'It has been yet another phenomenal year for the firm and the West Midlands is a key focus for us as we build our reputation as a 'Midlands' law firm. We are delighted to have so many of our West Midlands practice areas recognised by such a prestigious publication.’

The directory provides an overview of legal providers, separated by practice area and also region.
