Browne Jacobson invests for the future

09 December 2008

Despite the economic downturn that has seen many law firms shedding staff, in a progressive move Browne Jacobson has bucked the trend by adding two new lawyers to its property team in Birmingham.  The appointments of Vicky Camfield and Mike Hoye signal the firm’s growing presence in this challenging market and its confidence in the future of the property sector.

Recent figures suggest that law firms are facing the biggest round of redundancies ever seen in the sector, and there is no doubt that these are tough times for lawyers.  However Browne Jacobson is continuing to recruit and is still seeing a growth in business, attributable in part to of its mix of both public sector and private sector clients.  With these two new appointments Browne Jacobson’s property team in the Midlands will be 45 strong providing proactive legal advice across the sector.

To add to her expertise gained over more than ten years in private practice, Partner Vicky Camfield joins the firm with a year’s experience as legal director of a leading property development and investment company.  A commercial and residential development specialist, Vicky has been brought on board to further develop Browne Jacobson’s growing property team in Birmingham.  Mike Hoye, an associate, joins the team from DLA Piper where he specialised in the retail sector. Mike will take this expertise to a wide remit of commercial property clients at Browne Jacobson.

Commenting on these appointments, Browne Jacobson’s head of property, Dominic Swift said: “Like all businesses, these are tough times for lawyers, so we are pleased to be bolstering our ranks and adding to our property team. The experience that both Vicky and Mike will bring to our team is very much welcomed. Informed, proactive and commercially-minded legal advice is what the property sector needs right now.  And with these new additions to our team, we’re well placed to offer that kind of service.”
