advising school on PFI construction
the challenge:
The governing body of a community secondary school was
experiencing serious problems with their new premises and services
which had been procured by the local authority under the private
finance initiative (PFI) framework. The school had only recently
been completed and opened for education and the local authority
were turning a blind eye to the problems.
our approach:
We recognised the limited resources available to the school and
sought to define the clients realistic objectives from the outset.
By providing detailed costs estimates up front, together with
advice on the different realistic options available to the school
for tackling the issues, the school was able to pick and choose the
course of action that best suited their needs.
the results:
Instead of spending time and effort investigating the merits of
the case against the contractor we supported the school in
escalating the profile of the problems with the local authority so
they could be addressed face to face with the contractor and
service provider. We are now working on putting in place a suitable
solution for the school’s staff and students.
